ABOUT

Here at Pearls of Education Foundation, we are driven by a single goal; to show the love of Christ to Liberian students by helping provide education and restoration within their poverty stricken country. We believe that by properly educating these future leaders of Liberia, West Africa, they will want to make a difference in their communities and their country, making Liberia a better place for all.  We strive to build productive relationships and make a positive impact with all of our pursuits.

OUR STORY

The Founders

We are Liberians and Americans who desire to make a difference in the lives of Liberian students.  We desire to help restore and rebuild Liberia through education.  With illiteracy rates extremely high (especially with girls),unemployment and poverty are the norm. It's time for a change!!!
We can't change Liberia, but educated children can and WILL!!!  Will you join us in our vision?

PEARLS OF PROMISE

Through great support and prayers from so many, the building project for Deborah Kaye Moore Foundation School is completed on the first level of the building.  November of 2015 began the foundation work, and as funds come in we have be able to continue
the building project in phases.
As of November 2021 the majority of the project is completed and DKMF has begun its 1st year of school!!

Every child deserves an education, no matter what country they live in.  Our mission is to put this and other books into the hands of as many African and American children as possible through the  completion of the build of our first school in Liberia the fall of 2021;  continue to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout parts of Africa and America!   By using a percent of all proceeds from sales of the book and by raising separate financial support, we believe we can get this goal accomplished within the next couple of years.  WE cannot change the countries of Africa, but educated children can and will!

ABOUT LIBERIA

Liberia, West Africa, (officially known as  the Republic of Liberia), is a country on the west coast of Africa. It is bordered to the northwest by Sierra Leone, north by Guinea, and east by  Côte d'Ivoire.  The  Atlantic Ocean meets Liberia at its west door.

"14 years of civil war have devastated the Liberian economy, which is today characterized by an extremely low growth rate and high unemployment rate and foreign and domestic debt burdens. In 2007, the real growth rate was estimated at 8.5% while the unemployment rate at 80%. The socioeconomic and political order was seriously affected by the civil war. Agriculture was greatly damaged, prices of goods rose, and unemployment dominated the work force. Likewise physical infrastructure was spoiled. In particular, because of the war, roads were destroyed and no maintenance was provided to the power supply system that underwent a serious deterioration process. Living standards collapsed and poverty widely spread particularly among the poorer sections of society." (http://www.liberiandevelopmentfoundation.org)

"Today the economy of Liberia depends mainly on agriculture and export of iron, ore, rubber, diamond, gold and timber. In the agricultural sector, 70% of the population is involved in subsistence farming."

"Because of the war, human resources development was neglected while the literacy rate fell sharply below 32%, since there was no schooling in most parts of the country. The Liberian education system was destroyed during the 14-year civil conflict. A 2003 Liberian Ministry of Education and UNICEF study found that 20% of schools had been destroyed, and many of the remaining ones are in urgent need of repair . During the war, many education managers and teachers left the country and teachers without formal qualifications or experience took their place. Currently, the unqualified teachers in Liberia are estimated at 62%. As a result, enrollment is dramatically decreased: between 2000 and 2002, the gross enrollment ratio for girls declined from over 72% to just above 35% and from 73% to just above 48% for boys. Education was disrupted for so long that there are today large numbers of students in primary school are over-aged. For instance, a recent school census found that 85% of the students in grade G were 8 to 20 years old, with 50% being between 11 and 20 years. In secondary schools, 45% of boys and 27% of girls are aged between 20 and 24." (http://www.liberiandevelopmentfoundation.org)
